'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the dramatic final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative effort from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess immediately converted the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an incredible recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result secured a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be focused every second of the game. It requires a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At Orient he linked up again with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away fixtures against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the player from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, smiling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I felt I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
